“great family get away”

Reviewed November 11, 2013

Gumbo Limbo was the perfect spot for our family (dog included) to spend time together and enjoy the awesome Siesta Key beach. Beach access is SHORT walk away. We all enjoyed the beach and having the great pool was a bonus. There is plenty of room to relax, both inside and out. The outside amenities include outside showers, lounge chairs, grill, plenty of patio areas, tables and chairs to share a meal, and beach toys, wagon, unbrellas, chairs etc.....
During our stay, one or two of the other units were occupied. We only saw them at the pool, we never heard a thing and the peace and quiet was so worth the trip!
We will surely stay here again.

“Good Location, comfortable place to stay”

Reviewed September 4, 2013

Stayed in the honeymoon suite in September 2012. Nice place, everything you need in the room. Just across the street from the beach. Few blocks walk to village (5min). We didnt see another guest the entire time we stayed. Had the black bottom pool to ourselves and it was gorgeous. The maintenance crew came mid afternoon and interrupted our pool time but other than that, very quiet place. The only issue we had was that there were many ants in the kitchen area, but we easily got rid of them with some spray from town.

Stayed October 2012, traveled as a couple

This unit is on the 2nd floor and it does have 2 stairways, one is the main stairway with a balcony that has a table, chairs and umbrella. This leads into the living room area. The back stairway also has a smaller balcony with some chairs and leads into the bedroom with the king size bed.

The entire unit had nice furnishings including a flat screen TV and DVD player in the living room (a past review mentions a tube TV – it is gone). The kitchen was well equipped including microwave, dishwasher, pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker, toaster and a blender. For the most part you just need to provide paper goods like paper towels, napkins, maybe toilet paper. There are plenty of towels but you do need to bring your own beach towels.

The dining room has a large table with six chairs. This is also the area that receives the best signal for the free Wi-Fi (the router is in the next building).

The pool area we found to be very nice. Lots of plant life, a good size pool (5 1/2 feet deep) if all of the guests staying there aren’t in the pool, lounge chairs and tables. There is a nice gas grill (the light does work (reported not working in a previous review)) in the pool area that we and other guests took advantage of. There are a couple of outdoor showers to rinse off as well.

You may need to watch your parking. It may depend how many others are at Gumbo Limbo but you should be able to park at least 2 cars and maybe a third if any of the driveways are available (no parking on the grass).

The location of Gumbo Limo is great. A ½ block off the “main drag”, Ocean Blvd and a very short walk to one of the best beaches you will ever visit. One thing about Siesta Key is they have a lot of parking and access areas to their beaches and I could not find a parking meter anywhere. It is just under a mile to the village and a little further to get to the bridge that takes you back into Sarasota (and a nearby Publix (10 min away) as the closest major grocery store. There are some markets on Siesta Key if you wish). At Gumbo Limbo they have beach chairs and umbrellas you can take with you to the beach. Speaking of getting to the village, you could walk or use one of the free electric cart shuttle services that are available. They work off of tips so you don’t have to worry about parking or being a little too wasted to drive.

One restaurant I do want to recommend it Captain Curt’s. On someone else’s recommendation we had an excellent seafood dinner experience there. Quite casual and laid back but then again so is most of Siesta Key. It is located by the bridge that takes you back over to Sarasota.

Room Tip: Past reviews say to choose a second floor unit. We were happy..not sure how the bottom floor unites...

“Very friendly place!”

Reviewed April 13, 2013

We stayed at Gumbo Limbo in January in one of the first floor apartments. It's about as close as you can get to the beach without being right on it, and close enough to walk into Siesta Key. Everything in the place was bright and cheery and very clean. Virginia, the owner really seems to care about her guests. I left a pair of sandals behind, and she was very helpful in getting them back to me. It was so much nicer than staying in a big hotel!

“Location, location, location”

Reviewed March 18, 2013

We just returned from a week at Gumbo Limbo's Royal Palm Suite. This location was perfect--steps from the beach and only a short walk into the village. This suite was very roomy, nicely decorated and so clean. The pool area was mostly shady and tropical--but appeared larger in the photos. A few chairs around the pool were rusted and I was a bit afraid of catching my feet on the bottom of a few of those rusted chair legs. There was ample room around the pool for our party of 10, but anymore would have been tight! The gulf views were excellent from all windows and decks. There were chairs and umbrellas for use on the beach--although the chairs were very low to the sand and hard to get in and out of for some of us middle-aged visitors! I would definitely recommend Gumbo Limbo Royal Palm Suite to my friends! We couldn't have asked for a better location or view!

Room Tip: Go for the Royal Palm Suite or another 2nd floor suite, as others in our party had the 1st floor and...

If you have a chance to visit Siesta Key you need to stay at Gumbo Limbo!!! In early March we stayed in the Hibiscus Suite and it was great!! We were on vacation for Spring Break with our two kids. The beach is literally 60 steps from the unit we rented. The owner of Gumbo Limbo provides beach chairs, umbrellas, buckets etc for your beach vacation. Siesta Village is just a short drive down the street where we enjoyed breakfast at Another Broken Egg and dinner at the Lobster Pot. Plus Siesta Key is the perfect location if you want to enjoy some Spring Training baseball as it situated on the west coast of Florida. You can make a short drive to Bradenton, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Tampa to watch any number of teams. I promise you will not find a cleaner property in the area. Oh it also has its own lagoon pool!! We have already booked a return trip for next year.

My wife and I, both retirees in our 60s, loved Gumbo Limbo. Our biggest concern is that the places we choose to stay are clean and comfortable, with an emphasis on clean. Gumbo Limbo delivers on both counts. The carpet was clean, the bathrooms were spotless, and the bed was freshly made with clean linens. We both felt very comfortable staying in the Honeymoon Suite. (I guess you’re never too old!) The location is terrific. It’s only a half block to the beach. You can be there in minutes. We both really liked the private, almost secluded setting of the complex. Even though it’s a half block from a busy (but slow traffic street), the complex was quiet. It had a sort of Zen feel to it. We liked the two balconies that looked down into the garden and pool. With the exception of one night when some frisky young girls splashed around in the pool, the area was quiet and peaceful. The owner Virginia graciously allowed us to check in early because we flew in from the cold East Coast at an ungodly early hour, and had no place to go for hours. Virginia also met us at the condo, and was a delight to talk to. You get the feeling that she really cares and would correct any problem. She has a stockpile of beach chairs and umbrellas so you don’t have to rent the stuff. Very nice! Now the place isn’t cheap, but I imagine it’s sort of in line with the cost of other condos in similar situations. As for room tips, just know that some of the units, like

Our family of 4 stayed in the Honeymoon suite and even though it is a one bedroom we had plenty of room to spread out and get comfy. Our children are 7 & 8 and with the pull out sofa we had plenty of space. The view from the bedroom balcony to Siesta Key beach was a great way to wake up every morning. Kids loved the pool, and we enjoyed watching the birds enjoy the waterfall feature. A short walk to the beach, a slightly longer walk to downtown Siesta, it was THE place to stay!!! We hope to return next year.

Our family stayed in the Royal Palm Suite. This was a perfect place for our family! It is a nicely kept home and the open layout was great. The rooms were clean, spacious and provided plenty of storage space. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking and having meals. The furniture and beds were very comfortable too. We also enjoyed having the beautiful pool and outdoor area with a grill to use. This house is only a block from the beach and a short walk to the village. Siesta Key beach is utterly beautiful and the sand is fine and pure white. A public beach is nearby which provides just the right amount of activity and people-watching as they walk the shoreline. The village is full of good restaurants, shopping, live music, coffee shops, ice cream (Olafs!) bike's all there! Can't say enough, and we'll definitely want to stay here again on our next trip to Siesta!

I was recommended to Gumbo-Limbo by a friend. My husband and I had never been to the Siesta Keys, FL before. We rented a place that allowed our dogs. The Hide-Away was perfect. Not a far walk to a gorgeous beach and the property was beautifully laid out, complete with a salt water pool. The only recommendation I would have is they need an additional air conditioner in the bedroom as the one in the living room did not cool the room down to our satisfaction. However, dealing with Virginia, the owner was a pleasure and she was always available to answer any questions. I would highly recommend it to a couple, family or even bachelorette get togethers.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Honeymoon and HideAway Suites at Gumbo Limbo. We wanted a 5 day stay but didn't book it until 3 weeks prior. Virginia was very friendly and accommodating and worked it out for us to split our time among 2 different suites just steps

away from each other. Both suites were very clean and comfortable with plenty of space and enough kitchen supplies to allow us to cook meals. The Honeymoon Suite is on the 2nd floor with the bedroom upstairs meaning it's on the 3rd floor. There are 2 balconies overlooking the pool. The bedroom balcony has a beautiful view of the beach which was only a short walk

from the property. There is a small storage shed next to the lovely pool where beach umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards, and toys are kept for your use at the pool or the beach! In addition, there is an outdoor shower to rinse off the white sand from the beach before going back into your suite. We had a rental car but the Siesta Village is within walking distance for great food, drinks, and shopping. We LOVED staying here and and will come back again!

Very clean, well located condo with excellent communication from ownership and onsite facility staff.

Newly and tastefully renovated studio condo that never felt too small for my wife and young son.

Very comfortable furniture for lounging after a great day of relaxing on beach and around the fantastic pool.

We had as much privacy as we wanted and since the beach is so close it seemed like everyone in the complex had several hours a day with the pool to themselves.

“The accomodations and the location was perfect”

The suite 5610 was on the ground level, perfect for kids. The suite and outside areas were very clean and just the right size. It also was in a tropical setting which made it very relaxing. It also had outdoor showers for each unit to be able to wash off the sand/salt from the beach and/or pool.

The location was right across the public beach, which had a crossing lane light.
This place was a terrific place to vacation at, especially if you have children, and I plan to have more family trips there in the very near future.

Thank you Virginia for giving everyone a great place and time for a vacation!

“Siesta Key comfort”

Reviewed May 4, 2014

We stayed at one of the 2-bedroom properties downstairs and the location was ideal. It's just across the quiet part of the beach. We're a family of 5 and the space was adequate. There were 2 bedrooms and a den/extra bedroom. There were 2 bathrooms but the smaller one had some issues which I promptly reported and which Virginia has responded to right away. The kitchen was well-stocked and there were a lot of beach toys/equipments that's readily available for renters to use. All in all a great experience except for some noisy renters upstairs from us which is unavoidable sometimes. And if there's anything that needed to be improved is the wi-fi speed. My daughter needed to do some online homework and it was virtually impossible because of the low wi-fi service.
All in all a great stay.

“Gumbo Limbo - Great Place to Stay”

Our family frequently vacations in Siesta Key, Fl although this was the first time we stayed at Gumbo Limbo. It was a great place to stay. One block from beach, not too far to walk to Village, nice private swimming pool, neat and clean condo with all amnesties. The only thing wished that they provided would be beach towels along with your linens. Great place to stay and would suggest it to everyone and we will be staying there again.

“Fun Family Reunion Sopt!!”

Reviewed August 15, 2013

We rented all the units for a family reunion and it was perfect! We had the backyard all to our selves which was a perfect place to hang out and swim all day and night. Having a kitchen also helped us to feel right at home and allowed us to make large family brunches and dinners. It is literally right by the beach and the garage is loaded with chairs and umbrellas to make spending all day on the beach very comfortable. Several problems occurred during our stay with the AC being broken or not cool enough, aunts in the ground floor units, and lawn care people showing up early in the morning but Virgina was quick to have solutions and has great customer service. Siesta Key is also such a cute little town and you can walk to the village from Gumbo. I recommend finding a group large enough to fill the whole place for any occasion!!!

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom units are the best value and have a bonus room without a door but with a full size bed..

“Fun stay at Gumbo Limbo”

Reviewed August 11, 2013

Just got back from a 3 night stay at Gumbo Limbo with 5 of my friends for a girls weekend. This was our second year coming here. We rented 2 of the units upstairs and downstairs I believe they were the Key West and the Island. The units were very clean and the beds and bedding were comfortable. The decorations and paint colors are bright and tropical. The location is fantastic just a short walk to the beautiful beach. The pool is wonderful and lushly landscaped. I agree with another reviewer that the lighting around the pool at night could be a little better. We ate dinner out by the pool one night but was very difficult to walk to the pool in the dark. The only things I could complain about was that the WIFI was very poor in both the units. We could only get wifi sporadically. Also the AC in the upper unit did not seem to keep it very cool, the lower unit was much cooler and more comfortable. Some of the chairs at the dining tables in both units were very wobbly and needed repair/replacement.
But these were just minor complaints, overall we loved the place and plan to return next year .this place is good for friends, families or couples.

“Gumbo Limbo – Key West Suite review”

Reviewed June 29, 2013

As you read the reviews you will see the name “Virginia” come up quite a bit. There is a reason for that because Virginia runs Gumbo Limbo and is very personable and very easy to work with. She is definitely concerned about your comfort and that everything will be in order for your stay. She does a great job.

We recently celebrated my father’s 85th birthday in Siesta Key and decided on Gumbo Limbo after reading many reviews. We were not disappointed and have some updates to some of the older reviews you may read on this site.

The Key West Suite has 2 bedrooms & a den with 2 full baths. One bedroom has a king, one has two twins and the den has a queen. Now the den does have a partial wall but does open into the dining room/living room area. There is not a closet for the person staying in the den; they would need to use a closet in one of the other bedrooms. The den also is where the washer/dryer is tucked away and has one of the full baths while the two bedrooms share a bathroom in the hallway. For some, they may require more privacy for the den area but it was not a problem for us. Speaking of beds, all beds were comfortable with nice mattresses. One other thing, the den area does not have an A/C vent, nor does its bathroom. Again, it was not an issue for us. The living room does have 2 sofas, one may be a sleeper sofa but I would not recommend it.

“Gumbo Limbo at Siesta Key...Perfect!!”

Reviewed January 23, 2013

We recently stayed in the beautiful Royal Palm Suite at Gumbo Limbo and had a wonderful time. It was so close, everyday we walked barefoot to the beach! Siesta Key Beach was voted the most beautiful beach in the USA for 2011 and it is perfect. The sand is 95% quartz so it never gets hot even if it is 100 degrees. They have a machine which rakes the beach every morning so it always looked beautiful. On Mon,Wed & Fri there is Yoga on the beach.
Gumbo Limbo supplies everything you need for the beach; towels, chairs, sand pails and even surf boards and tubes. There is also a lovely pool to relax in at days end or while you are cooking your dinner at the grill. One little extra which is great is an outdoor shower to wash off the sand.

The accommodations were very clean and spacious. The beds and bedding were plush and there were 2.5 bathrooms! Having 3 balconies to enjoy gave us individual space as well as together time to sit and view the water and the beautiful sunrises or sunsets. The cute little town is a 20 minute walk away and has great restaurants and bars. Or there is a free shuttle you can call and have them pick you up and you just pay tips.
The kitchen had everything we needed and having meals on the deck was perfect & made us glad we weren't at home in the below freezing weather. The location is so close to the beach, that it is convenient to walk the 3 minutes and come back for lunch. Or on the beach just 2 minutes further are a couple of takeout restaurants and bathrooms.
The owner was very friendly and helpful, showing us around upon our arrival and letting us know she was available at any time during our stay by phone if we needed her for anything.
Gumbo Limbo is a perfect choice for a relaxing stay in a beautiful home.
